The eyes are the focal point of the face and have a tremendous impact on your appearance. In fact, the eyes are often the first place to show signs of aging. That's why so many people, young and old, request and benefit greatly from eyelid surgery.

Aesthetic eyelid surgery can make your face look "refreshed" and restore a more youthful appearance by removing the bags and excess skin from under and over the eyes. When a forehead lift is done at the same time, it can lessen forehead wrinkles and frown lines and raises drooping, sagging eyebrows.

The surgery usually takes between 1 to 3 hours and is performed under local anesthesia and sedation. The surgeon removes excess skin and muscle as well as repositions or eliminates fat under the skin that creates bagginess of the eyelids. Incisions are made along natural folds or under the eyelashes, or sometimes may be hidden inside the lower eyelid.

After surgery expect some mild discomfort and soreness. If you feel pain, it can be controlled with medications. There will be increasing swelling for approximately 48 hrs. The bruising and the swelling can be reduced using ice packs or cold compresses. You may need to use eye drops for a few days. Typically sutures are removed between 4 to 7 days and patients can start using makeup conservatively a few days later. Some patients experience excessive sensitivity, tearing and irritation for a period after surgery and it will gradually subside.

After only a few months the scars are usually unnoticeable and many people will remark on your improved appearance although they won't know that you had eyelid surgery. Please set-up your free consultation with Dr. Guiloff to find if this procedure is right for you.
