Q: EVEN THOUGH I EXERCISE I HAVE THESE STUBBORN AREAS OF FAT THAT DON'T GO AWAY. HOW CAN THIS BE CORRECTED?

A. A surgical procedure known as "tumescent liposuction" can help to remove this fat cell deposits from the body. It was designed especially for those individuals who have localized fat deposits and have tried unsuccessfully to eliminate them through exercise, diet and weight loss. During tumescent liposuction the surgeon injects the areas to be treated with a special saline solution before the fatty deposits are removed. The procedure is usually performed under twilight anesthesia. Only moderate swelling and bruising occur with this technique. Both men and women can benefit from this procedure. The areas most commonly corrected in women include the saddlebags, abdomen, waist, thighs and knees. In men frequently treated areas are the love handles, the abdomen and the neck.

Q: HOW DO I KNOW I AM CHOOSING THE RIGHT SURGEON?

A. The single most important factor in the success of aesthetic plastic surgery is the surgeon you select. Do not take this responsibility lightly. Conduct your own research to verify the surgeon's training and experience; then weigh your decision carefully. Here are a few pointers: Check for certification by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Check for membership in the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) or the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS). Check the surgeon's hospital affiliations. Talk candidly with the surgeon, it is important to establish a trusting relationship.

Q. ARE THERE MANY RISKS & COMPLICATIONS IN COSMETIC SURGERY?

A: Although some of the procedures described in our web site appear to be relatively simple operations, it is essential for you to understand that aesthetic plastic surgery, like all surgery has certain risks. Plastic surgeons perform thousands of successful aesthetic procedures each week, but as with any type of surgery, patients can have an adverse reaction to the anesthetic or be affected by post operative complications such as blood clots, infection or poor healing. These problems can occur even when the surgeon has performed the operation with the utmost skill. Since smoking may interfere with proper healing and aspirin may increase the risk of excessive bleeding, you may be advised to avoid them before and after surgery. Occasionally, surgical revisions may be necessary to achieve optimal results. It is important to remember that aesthetic plastic surgery molds and reshapes living tissue, and the results are not absolutely predictable. No surgeon can offer risk free surgery or guarantee a perfect result.

Q: I AM NOT HAPPY WITH MY FACIAL APPEARANCE. HOW DO I KNOW WHAT COULD HELP ME?

A: The first step is to request a personal consultation with Dr. Guiloff. There is no charge for cosmetic consultations. His experience and aesthetic knowledge will help you in your decision. Irregularities of the nose, ears, cheeks or chin may upset the balance of the face and affect its overall appearance, since these features are often viewed in relation to one another. Aesthetic plastic surgery can reshape the nose, diminish the prominence of the ears and reshape the chin or cheeks to improve excesses or deficiencies in these areas. In many cases, changing a single facial feature can bring the face into better balance, enhancing your appearance and increasing your positive feelings about yourself.

Q. IS COSMETIC SURGERY VERY EXPENSIVE?

A: Plastic surgery is sometimes perceived as something only for the rich and famous. But that's no longer true. In fact, cosmetic surgery is one of the few medical specialties where the average fees have gone down. While some procedure fees may still seem high, the overall costs have fallen because many procedures formally done in the hospital are now performed in doctors' offices or same-day surgery centers. Additionally, cosmetic surgery has undergone many technological advances in the past few years. So now people from all kinds of income brackets, both male and female, choose to have plastic surgery and can now afford it. Our office accepts credit card payments and also puts you in contact with several financing companies that make cosmetic surgery really affordable by making convenient monthly payments.
